FOOD for thought

I love Thanksgiving...its the time of year when everyone else is thinking about food and what to cook as much as I do! So I thought I would share a few thoughts, minor ones that float across my brain while in the kitchen: (which is often!)


For Instance: Does anybody else feel like they have found a little piece of buried treasure when they come across a slightly burned, brown edged, wheat thin in the box? They are a dying breed in this world of mass computerized production...yet so enjoyable; I remember thinking when I was younger that you could market the 'not so desirable' wheat thins all together in the same box for people like me :)

...I tried a recipe for roasted brussel sprouts this week... Brussel sprouts seem to be one of those traditional holiday foods that families either grew up eating every year or they never make it to the dinner list. The ones who do eat them yearly always seem to have a secret 'extra yummy' recipe that they never REALLY give out... if anyone would like a new brussel sprout recipe to start a tradition I think I found a pretty good one...it even has bacon which puts it at the top of most guys radar. :)

I have a favorite find this week too: Extra Gum makes a new dessert delights gum that is Mint Chocolate Flavor...so good.  Its that sweet tooth craving you are looking for, 15 desserts for only 98 cents!

Long story short...I am so grateful to my God that we are even able to go to the grocery store and pick up whatever whim of food we are after.  He is so faithful to us; in an economic year that is not so bright I thank Him for his generous provision and faithfulness to us, without him we are hopeless.  I pray this season whether it be sparse or plentiful that we can all thank God for His blessings, whatever they look like in each of our lives.

At what age do we need to stop having our owies kissed...and is that a bad thing or a good thing?

Ode to the Mechanical Pencil

I found a pencil in my couch today :) and almost
instinctively went to my purse for a pen and then thought,
"What am I doing? I love pencils"...
...the always sharp,
never permanent
soft-gripped mechanical wonder.
Why do I use anything else?...
No more write-over corrections trying to uphold
the product of perfection; only to be given away by the
heavy ink soaked letter midway through my sentence...
distracting and attention-grabbing...interrupting my thoughts.

The freedom to erase...
If only all of life's errors
could be erased so easily.
I think I will name my pencil SAVIOR.

Random Thought Wednesdays

Laundry baskets should be like trash compactors, able to hold exceedingly more than NORMAL...instead of mocking you as they stare at you from their corner as they quietly spill their articles onto the floor when no one is looking...

I think God invented the Mirror

Ever had one of those mornings where everything goes smoothly, you get ready and have the perfect outfit, clean and weather-appropriate, your hair cooperates and does what its suppose to and you go to leave the house thinking 'I feel great today!' Then as you go to exit you glance into the entry mirror one last time, your first mistake...and are sorely disappointed?!
If there were no mirrors anywhere it would have remained a fantastic day! Now, however, you have been left with a strong dose of reality as to what you REALLY look like -
Without that mirror though, we risk believing in that puffed up unrealistic version of ourselves; others can plainly see us but we would much rather go about our day seeing everyone else's shortcomings and not our own...
What a reminder: I was created, like God's first mirror, the still beauty of calm water, to reflect God's glory, making my exterior nothing more than a canvas to reflect God's creation and beauty, not my own version of SELF...

Unappreciated

You know those household items you walk by everyday and KINDA look at but don't really appreciate? I lost one today... my beautiful glass pedestal hurricane got broken, or should I say shattered... and as much as I loved it, I had not truly realized it until now. As it lays in a hundred pieces on my floor.
My prayer today is that our relationships do not become one of those things we overlook until they are broken beyond repair...overlooked and unappreciated in our midst until one day they are gone.
The saddest part is that I will most likely be able to replace my beautiful hurricane one day with something very comparable...but I will look at it and remember what I once had, where now a substitute stands in its place.
